SYMPTOMS

On an Exchange 2000 Server computer, an access violation may occur in the IISAdmin service when you try to shut down the Exchange services under a heavy load.

If the correct symbols are installed on the computer, a DrWatson.log file or the corresponding User.dmp file may contain the following call stack:

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of there is not enough thread safety around the configuration objects.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: Because of file dependencies, this update requires Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.
