FIX: An MSI Installer Dialog Box Opens and Stops BizTalk Server Processes

Article ID: 317076

Article Last Modified on 10/17/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q317076

SYMPTOMS

While BizTalk Server is running, an MSI Installer dialog box may suddenly open in which you are prompted to provide the location of the BizTalk Server Setup files. This causes all of the currently-running BizTalk Server processes to pause until you manually close the MSI Installer dialog box. All document processing and receive functions stop while the dialog box is open.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the BizTalk Server Windows installer package, Microsoft BizTalk Server.msi, contains some invalid registry references to the operating system component OLEaut32.dll. These invalid references are written to the registry when you install BizTalk Server. When BizTalk Server processes these values, it cannot locate OLEaut32.dll, and so it initializes the MSI Installer in an attempt to install OLEaut32.dll.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
