SYMPTOMS

The %src_filename% symbol does not retain the correct file name and path if you use the pass-through flag to submit the input file to BizTalk Server. Instead of the name and path of the input file name being passed to the output file name by these symbols, the actual text of the symbol name is passed to the output file name.

RESOLUTION

BizTalk Server 2000

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

By using the %src_filename% symbol that is available in BizTalk Server 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and BizTalk Server 2002, you can dynamically modify output file names by using the File transport.

You can use the %src_filename% symbol to generate output files that have the name and the path of the original input file. For example, when you are configuring a BizTalk Messaging Port, you can configure the File transport address as the following:

file://c:\outputfile%src_filename%.txt

In this example, if you name the input file test.xml, the output file name becomes

outputfiletest.xml.txt

if you use the pass-through flag to submit the input file to BizTalk Server.

For the File transport type, you can include characters and symbols to dynamically modify the output file name. The following table contains the symbols that you can use with the File transport type:

Symbol Description Unique file name
%datetime% Date and time, in milliseconds, of the file creation

The time is based on Greenwich Mean Time.

No
%document_name% Name of the document definition that is used to process the source file No
%server% Host name of the server that processed the document No
%src_filename% Name of the file that is being submitted for processing No
%tracking_id% Globally unique tracking number Yes
%uid% Counter that increases over time, represented in milliseconds

This number is reset when you restart the server.

No
