Problems When You Use OpenGL-Emulation Mode with Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

When your video adapter is using the OpenGL-emulation mode that is associated with the Quake 3 game, you may receive the following error message:

Quake3.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you view the data that the error report contains, the following error signature information is listed:

   App Name    App Version  Module Name      Module Version  Offset

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

  1. Obtain and install the most current driver for your video adapter. For information about how to do so, contact the manufacturer of your video adapter.
  2. Obtain and install the Windows XP Application Compatibility Update from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site:
