SYMPTOMS
When you add an address space to an SMTP Connector in Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may receive the following error message:
If you click OK, the Internet Address Space Properties dialog box of the SMTP Connector is displayed.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the E-mail domain field contains an invalid character.
Earlier versions of Exchange 2000 do not verify that the E-mail domain field contains only valid characters. Exchange 2000 Server SP2 verifies that this field does not contain invalid characters to more closely conform to the Request for Comments (RFC) 821 document.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, remove the invalid character from the E-mail domain field. Only the following ASCII characters are valid for the E-mail domain field:
- Lowercase letters a through z
- Uppercase letters A through Z
- Digits 0 through 9
- Underscore (_)
- Dash or hyphen (-)
- Apostrophe (')
NOTE: The parentheses () in the preceding text are not part of the allowed set of characters.
