SYMPTOMS
When you try to read data from a DVD that was recorded on a DVD-R drive by using multiple sessions, you may receive the following error message:
IMPORTANT: For the problem that the hotfix that is described in this article fixes, you can read disks that are recorded with less than 2.2 gigabytes (GB) of data without problems. It is important to note that there are two other possible causes of this problem that are quite common and will occur on disks that contain any amount of data. First, firmware on the drive that is too old to read DVD-R media in your DVD drive. Consult the manufacturer of the drive for information about the compatibility of DVD-R media and your drive. Second, the DVD-R has not been closed, or has been improperly closed. Consult your DVD-R software documentation for more information about this possible error.
RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
