SYMPTOMS
If a user is configured with a Contributor role on a newsgroup folder, the permissions for that user may change when the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service is started.
A user with the Contributor role can write to the folder, and the folder is visible to the user. When the NNTP service is started again, a user with the Contributor role can read the items in the folder as well.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.
