SYMPTOMS
In some cases, some National Semiconductor IDE controllers may be interpreted by Windows 2000 as not supporting Direct Memory Access (DMA) and use Processor Input/Output (PIO) mode instead.
RESOLUTION

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.

After you install the hotfix, you must make a registry change to enable the hotfix:
- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
- Locate and click the following key in the registry:

- On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: IgnoreBusMasterStatusZeroBits
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Decimal
Value data: 1 - Quit Registry Editor.
