Access Violation in the Queue Manager When a Service Application Opens a Queue

SYMPTOMS

When a service application opens a queue, you may receive an access violation error message in the Microsoft Message Queuing, also known as MSMQ, 2.0 Queue Manager.

CAUSE

The access violation check code in the Queue Manager receives a NULL pointer for the queue security descriptor.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.
