This article was previously published under Q311117

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Web Scheduler component (Schedule.asp) to book an online conference meeting request, and you perform a checkname operation on the recipient, you may receive the following error message:

Recipient names can not have quotes.

NOTE: You do not receive this error message if you do not perform a checkname operation before you submit the conference meeting request.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the recipient name includes an apostrophe or single quotation mark ('). This character is not a valid Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) character. If this character is present in the recipient name, the validation code in the Schedule.asp page returns the error message that is described in the "Summary" section of this article.

WORKAROUND

To resolve this issue:

  1. Make sure that the recipient's e-mail address does not contain an invalid character.
  2. Use a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) client computer to submit the meeting request.

NOTE: Do not perform a checkname operation before you submit the request.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use the following valid SMTP characters in an e-mail address:

  • The letters "a" through "z"
  • The numbers "0" through "9"
  • A hyphen (-)
