AutoConfig Branding Does Not Occur on Internet Explorer 5 for Unix

Article ID: 310798

Article Last Modified on 9/23/2002

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0

This article was previously published under Q310798

SYMPTOMS

When you use an AutoConfig Uniform Resource Locator (URL) to apply customizations to Internet Explorer 5 on Sun Solaris for the Sparc platform, the Custom_config.cab file is downloaded but the entries in the file are not applied.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Custom_config.cab files that are smaller then 500 bytes in size are marked as invalid.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, make all customizations through the Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) Customization Wizard. When you do this, the customizations are applied when Internet Explorer on Sun Solaris for the Sparc platform is installed.

In addition, verify the size of the Custom_config.cab file before you implement the AutoConfig URL on Sun Solaris for the Sparc platform. If the size of the file is less than 500 bytes, use the IEAK Profile Manager tool to select other customization sections without making changes to the default settings. If you click the section, the .inf file is included in the Custom_config.cab file but the .inf file contains the default options. The .inf file is included in the Custom_config.cab file when the profile is saved. When this occurs, the size of the Custom_config.cab file is increased.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
