XFOR: Migration Wizard Takes a Long Time to Populate the "Migration Destination" Page

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Migrating from Microsoft Exchange option in the Migration Wizard, it may take a long time (30 to 60 minutes) to populate the Migration Destination page of the wizard.

CAUSE

The Migration Wizard is performing a deep traversal to find Exchange 2000 private information stores, which can take a long time in large topologies.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The type of Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) search used by the Migration Wizard has been changed to be more efficient in large Active Directory topologies. This change will be most noticeable in large topologies.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
