SYMPTOMS

The following error message about Event ID 2048 may appear in the application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeDSAccess
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2048

Description: The description for Event ID 2048 in Source MSExchangeDSAccess cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Excessive LDAP Timeouts occurred. Process/PID/DC/PLDAP/MsgId/CLdapConnection*:, STORE.EXE", 1084, FQDN of server, 0xa1cb3f8, 0x6ad, 0x7ff958b8.

The executable file or files that are listed in the description may vary.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the \MSExchangeDSAccess\Instance0:MaxMemory registry key is set to less than 2 megabytes (MB). Attributes are not cached. The 2-MB value is used for DSAccess at a minimum.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
