NdisMSetMiniportSecondary Function Does Not Configure Miniport Adapter to the Secondary Role

SYMPTOMS

Under the following conditions, NdisMSetMiniportSecondary returns a NDIS_STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED status during a call to NdisMSetMiniportSecondary with a promoted miniport as a primary port:

  1. You have two network adapters that are initially bundled as primary and secondary.
  2. You turn off the primary network adapter, and then promote the secondary network adapter by using NdisMPromoteMiniport.
  3. You turn on the primary network adapter again, and then call NdisMSetMiniportSecondary.


CAUSE

This problem may occur because NDIS does not process this request correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
