The Procdb.exe File Generates Errors in Windows 2000 and Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

During a restart or during normal operation of Windows 2000 or Windows 98, you may receive the following error message:

ProcDB.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log has been created.

CAUSE

The errors occur because of the Hewlett-Packard (HP) PictureLink program, which runs a background process that starts HP PictureScan when you try to scan pictures. The Procdb.exe file, which generates the errors, is included with HP OfficeJet products.

WORKAROUND

To resolve the errors, rename the Procdb.exe file to Procdb.old.
