SYMPTOMS

After you install Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server on a server that also runs Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Server, version 5.0, several services begin terminating every seven minutes. The following event is recorded in Event Viewer:

Event ID: 7031
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event Description: The World Wide Web Publishing Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 11 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.

Similar events concern the following services:

  • Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)
  • Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine
  • Microsoft Exchange POP3
  • Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP)
  • Microsoft Exchange IMAP4
  • Internet Information Service Administrator

NOTE: This behavior can occur after installing SP2.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Trend Micro ScanMail for Exchange Server, version 5.0, has components that are incompatible with AVAPI 2.0, which is installed with Service Pack 1 for Exchange 2000 Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, upgrade to version 5.1 of Trend Micro ScanMail for Exchange 2000 Server. This version supports the AVAPI 2.0 specification. For more information, visit the following Trend Micro Web site:
