SYMPTOMS
If an Attribute Value Pair (AVP) file contains any of the following special characters in the Attribute name, the wizard cannot detect the file type and defaults to the "unknown delimited" file type:
# % & ' , - . / ? @ [ ] _ ` { | } ~
This is a sample input file that contains a period:
A.CN: First1
A.SN: Last1
A.OU: Type
A.CN: First2
A.SN: Last2
A.OU: Type
CAUSE
The period is not recognized as a valid character.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next version of Microsoft Metadirectory Services that contains this hotfix.

This fix changes the parser to support all the symbols that are not predefined by Microsoft Metadirectory Services (that is, those that do not appear in the Template Definitions form). This changes the character support to include:
