SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to play a media file in Microsoft Internet Explorer, you may experience the following behavior:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer displays a page that contains an error message similar to the following:
-and-
- You cannot quit Internet Explorer when you click Close on the File menu, or when you click X in the upper-right corner of the program window.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
- You are using a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.
-and-
- You attempt to play a media file in Internet Explorer.
-and-
- The media file is invalid. For example, the media file is an incorrectly formatted ASX file.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use Task Manager to close Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
- Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Task Manager.
- Click the Applications tab.
- Click the Internet Explorer entry in the Task list, and then click End Task.
- In the End Program dialog box, click End Now.
- Quit Task Manager.
