SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to run Autodiscovery and Layout, or when you try to use the Visio Help engine in one of the Microsoft Visio 2000 products listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:

KEYHH has caused an IPF in module Kernel32.dll

You receive this error message as soon as the Network Diagramming Assistant is displayed.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Visio Help is not properly installed during the Visio installation process.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Remove and Reinstall Visio Help

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double click Add/Remove programs.
  3. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Visio 2000, and then click Change.
  4. In the Microsoft Visio Installation Manager, click Next.
  5. Click Add/Remove, and then click Next.
  6. Click the icon immediately to the left of Help for Visio 2000, and then click Remove.
  7. Click Next twice. Visio Help is then removed. Click Finish when the setup process is complete.
  8. Restart your computer, and then start Visio. Run Autodiscovery and Layout.
  9. Repeat steps 1 through 5.
  10. Click the icon immediately to the left of Help for Visio 2000, and then click Install Locally.
  11. Click Next twice. Visio Help is then installed. Click Finish when the setup process is complete.
  12. Restart your computer, and then start Visio.
