SYMPTOMS
If you call the ReadFile function to read data from a file through a network share or by using a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) name more than once, and if the data on the file changes before your second ReadFile call, you may still receive the data before the change from the ReadFile call.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Server Message Block (SMB) client reads data from the local cache instead of sending the request to the SMB server because there is an incorrect internal status.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
