Attempting to Disable a Logitech Serial Mouse After Hibernation Causes Device Manager to Hang

SYMPTOMS

After you return your computer from hibernation, if you attempt to disable a Logitech serial mouse, Device Manager may stop responding (hang). This behavior occurs on a Windows XP-based computer that has the Lsermous.sys driver installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact Logitech to check for the availability of an updated driver that addresses this behavior.

To work around this behavior, manually install the Microsoft Serial Mouse device, which uses Sermouse.sys drivers:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. When you see the Please select the operating system to start message, press the F8 key. If you do not see the message, press F8 repeatedly until you see the Windows Advanced Startup Options screen.
  3. On the Windows Advanced Options menu, use the ARROW keys to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
  4. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
  5. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  6. Expand Mice and other pointing devices, and then double-click the mouse for which you want to change or upgrade the driver.
  7. Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
  8. Click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.
  9. Click Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
  10. Click to clear the Show compatible hardware check box.
  11. Under Manufacturers, click Microsoft.
  12. Under Models, click Microsoft Serial Mouse, and then click Next.
  13. Restart the computer if you are prompted to do so.
