No Sound on Panasonic Toughbook CF-45 with Yamaha DS1 Audio Device After Windows XP Installation

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows XP on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-45 portable computer that has a Yamaha DS1 audio device installed, you may not hear any sound.

Device Manager may display a black exclamation point (!) next to the audio device. The audio device properties may indicate a status of Code 10, and you may see the following information (or a similar statement):

This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the driver for the Yamaha DS1 audio device is not compatible with Windows XP.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact Yamaha to ask about availability of an updated driver that addresses this issue.
