SYMPTOMS
If you use icons on the Quick Launch bar to gain access to shared application data on a network drive, the icons may disappear.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the connection to the shared directory is lost.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
When the shared directory comes back online, the icons reappear. Updating the screen may take a few moments.
