SYMPTOMS
When you install Windows XP on a portable computer that uses the Trident video chipset, some images on the screen may be distorted during the installation.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because of an issue between the portable computer's system BIOS and the Trident video device driver that comes with Windows XP.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, obtain an updated system BIOS from the manufacturer. Note that in order to have a stable system, you must perform an in-place upgrade of Windows XP after you flash (renew) the BIOS. WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, turn off VESA support in the system BIOS. Refer to your computer's documentation for instructions, or contact the computer manufacturer if you need assistance with performing this task.
