Services for UNIX Management Console May Hang

SYMPTOMS

After you install Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2 (SP2), Internet Explorer 6, Microsoft Office XP, or Windows Critical Update, the Services for UNIX Management Console may stop responding (hang) and you may receive the following Dr. Watson error message:

Application exception occurred:
App: obj\i386\mmc.exe (pid=1580)
When: 8/21/2001 @ 15:14:22.202
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this fix.
