SYMPTOMS
When the file URL link in Notification and Approval mail messages has double-byte character set (DBCS) characters, it may not display the linked file document.
CAUSE
The file URL link in Notification and Approval mail messages is encoded by canonicalized UTF-8. If the file URL has DBCS characters, the URL may become much longer than expected; therefore, it may not display the file document because of length limitations on directory and file name path in each operating system and application.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SharePoint Portal Server 2001. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

IMPORTANT: You must apply this hotfix before you apply the hotfix described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

The Japanese version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 1.
