SYMPTOMS
When you try to delete a standard TCP/IP printer port, you may receive the following error message:
You receive this error message if the TCP/IP printer port name is longer than 48 characters. Windows 2000 permits you to create TCP/IP printer ports with names that are longer than 48 characters.
CAUSE
The monitor does not handle long port names correctly.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, you can delete the TCP/IP printer port in the registry.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
