APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q306260

SYMPTOMS

When you run administrative tasks on a Windows 2000-based domain where computers use 802.1x wireless networking for secure network access, you may not be able to modify the dial-in permission for computer accounts. If this occurs, you cannot manage computer authentication at the Active Directory level.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Dial-in tab does not appear in account properties for the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps.

Important On one domain controller, you must have already installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3), and you must import the Mac80218.ldf file.

  1. Install the following hotfix: To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

       Date Time Size File name
       --------------------------------------
       17-Oct-2001 11:25 186 Mac8021x.ldf

  2. At a command prompt on the server on which the Mac8021x.ldf file was installed, type ldifde -i -f %systemRoot%\system32\mac8021x.ldf -c DC=DN "DC=domain,DC=com", and then press ENTER, where each "DC=" after the "DC=DN" is followed by each level of your fully qualified domain namespace. In this example, the active directory domain is domain.com.

Note Perform this procedure only one time per Active Directory domain. You do not have to restart the domain controller after you complete this procedure. However, you must quit Active Directory Users and Computers to see the changes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
