SYMPTOMS

When the Adobe Type Manager font driver (Atmfd.dll) loads, you may receive the following error message on a blue screen:

STOP 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

CAUSE

This problem can be caused by a synchronization problem in Win32k.sys that occurs when the Atmfd.dll file is loaded.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
