SYMPTOMS
After you upgrade a computer from Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 to Windows 2000 Server, the following error message may appear when you click Add/Remove Hardware:
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, grant Administrators the right to load and unload device drivers:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
- In the console tree, double-click the domain node.
- In the Details pane, right-click the domain controllers organizational unit folder, and then click Properties.
- Click the Group Policy tab, select the default domain controllers policy, and then click Edit.
- Edit the policy to ensure that administrators can load and unload device drivers:
- Under Computer Configuration, click Windows Settings, click Security Settings, and then click Local Policies.
- Click User Rights Assignment, and then double-click Load and unload device drivers.
- Add Administrators.
- Restart the computer.
