SUMMARY

You may receive an error type 11 while you are working in an Outlook 2001 for Mac mailbox. This article outlines the troubleshooting steps that you may use to resolve an error type 11.

MORE INFORMATION

An error type 11 is a generic PowerPC error. Use one of the following troubleshooting steps (in any order) to attempt to resolve the error type 11.

IMPORTANT: You may have to reconfigure Outlook 2001 for Mac for some of the following troubleshooting steps.

How to Create a New Profile

You can create a completely new Outlook 2001 for Mac profile to try and resolve the error type 11. For additional information about how to create profiles in Outlook 2001 for Mac, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to Rule Out Mailbox Problems

To determine if the issue is with the Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox, you can do the same function in the Microsoft Windows version of Outlook mailbox that you did in the Outlook 2001 for Mac mailbox. If you receive any type of errors with the Windows version of Outlook, the issue is not specific to Outlook 2001 for Mac, but is probably specific to the Exchange Server mailbox.

If any errors occur when you use the Windows version of Outlook, create an Exchange Server mailbox, or connect to another Exchange Server mailbox, to verify if the error type 11 is mailbox specific. An Exchange Server administrator is required to create a new mailbox.

How to Troubleshoot the Outlook Environment

Exit Outlook 2001 for Mac if it is currently running. Locate and remove the following files and folders:

  • Hard Drive:System Folder:Preferences:Exchange Profiles
  • Hard Drive:System Folder:Preferences:Exchange Preferences

NOTE: Removing these items requires that you recreate any profiles and reconfigure services that you had prior to removing them.

How to Troubleshoot Extensions

To determine if an extension may be causing the error type 11, troubleshoot extensions by using the following steps:

  1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels, and then click Extension Manager.
  2. In the Extension Manager dialog box, verify that you save the current set of extensions that are running, and then click to select Mac OS All set. It is necessary to select this set to maintain network connectivity.NOTE: The Mac OS All set is a locked set. You will receive a prompt to make a copy of this set to use for troubleshooting.

  1. Scroll through the list of extensions, and then click to select all extensions that start with the word "Microsoft" (without quotation marks), and then restart your computer.
  2. Test the program for the to see if the error type 11 occurs.

If the error type 11 occurs, it is one of the extensions or control panels that are turned on that is causing this behavior. You must eliminate files from the list of those that are currently turned on in the Extension Manager dialog box.

If the behavior does not occur with the All Set + Microsoft extensions that are turned on, you know that the extension that is causing the behavior is not part of that set. Add extensions to that set (note which extensions or control panels you add), restart the computer, and then test for the error type 11 until it occurs again. After that, you must test the extensions or control panels that were recently added to find the one that is causing the behavior.

After you locate the file that is causing the behavior, contact the manufacturer of the software to see whether an updated version is available.

How to Allocate Additional Memory to Outlook 2001 for Mac

Allocating more memory to Outlook 2001 for Mac may provide a successful resolution to the error type 11. To do this:

  1. Locate and select the Outlook icon.
  2. On the File menu, click Get Info, and then click Memory.
  3. In Preferred Size, edit the value to approximately twice the original figure.
  4. Restart your computer, and then start Outlook.

How to Troubleshoot Possible Damaged Fonts

Damaged fonts may cause the error type 11 when Outlook 2001 for Mac attempts to initialize the display. Use the following steps to troubleshoot fonts:

  1. Locate and click the Macintosh Fonts folder, and then drag it to your desktop.
  2. Restart your computer, and then start Outlook 2001 for Mac.

If Outlook 2001 for Mac starts without the error type 11, you can add fonts back in small groups to isolate the problem fonts. It may be necessary to reinstall fonts.
