SYMPTOMS
When you log off from a session where you used Kerberos credentials on a computer that runs Windows 2000, an access violation may occur in Lsass.exe.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if only one of the two handles that are related to Kerberos credentials is closed. The Kerberos credentials are purged in one of the handles. The credentials are then purged again in the other handle, which causes the access violation.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

This fix should be applied to both server and client systems that run Windows 2000.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
