SYMPTOMS
When you run Setup for Office XP, you may receive the following error message:
The following is sample text is taken from a Windows Installer log file for the Office installation:
FIsOSPRequired: OSP Check: Checking for: MSADOR15.DLL AdoFolder 2.50.4403.4 on platform All FIsOSPRequired: OSP Check: Checking for file at e:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ADO\MSADOR15.DLL FIsOSPRequired: OSP Check: OSP Check Failed: Required OSP file e:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ADO\MSADOR15.DLL could not be found in specified directory Info 2898. An internal error has occurred. (Tahoma8 Tahoma 1 ) Error 25510. Microsoft Office XP requires updated system files not detected on your computer. You must install the System Files Update prior to installing Office. e:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ADO\MSADOR15.DLL is missing when we require version 2.50.4403.4. Action ended 4:17:20: OSPNeedUpgrade. Return value 3.
CAUSE
This error message occurs if both of the following are true:
- The System Files Update is installed on your computer.
- The data for the CommonFilesDir string value under the following registry key is invalid:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps.
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
- Click Start and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type Regedit and then click OK.
- Locate and select the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
- Double-click the CommonFilesDir string value.
- Type the following path in the Value data box, and then click OK:
C:\Program Files\Common Files
NOTE: You may need to specify a different path to match this folder location on your computer.
- On the Registry menu, click Exit.
- Run Setup for Office.
