SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to print a Microsoft Word document, you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when all of the following conditions are true:
- E-Stamp is installed on your computer.
- You then remove E-Stamp from your hard disk.
- Removing E-Stamp does not completely remove all files associated with the program. E-Stamp files remain in the Microsoft Office Startup, Microsoft Word Startup, or Temp folders on your hard disk.
As a result, you may receive the error message described in the "Symptoms" section when you attempt to print a Word document.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Right-click Start, and then click Explore to start Windows Explorer.
- Browse to the Word Startup folder appropriate for your operating system:
- If you are running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the folder is located in the following path:
- If you are running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the folder is located in the following path:
C:
\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup
where C:
is the drive on which Windows is installed.
NOTE: If user profiles are turned on in Windows, the Startup folder is contained in the Application Data folder that is located in each user's profile.
- If you are running Microsoft Windows NT, the folder is located in the following path:
- If you are running Microsoft Windows NT, the folder is located in the following path:
C:
\Winnt\Profiles\user profile
\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup
where C:
is the drive on which Windows is installed, and user profile
is your user profile.
- If you are running Microsoft Windows 2000, the folder is located in the following path:

\Documents and Settings\user profile
\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup
where C:
is the drive on which Windows is installed, and user profile
is your user profile.
- Select all files in the Startup folder, and then press DELETE.
- Browse to the Office Startup folder. The Office Startup folder is located by default in the following path:
C:
\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup
where C:
is the drive on which Windows is installed.
- Select all files in the Startup folder, and then press DELETE.
- Start Word, and then attempt to print your document.
If you are still unable to print, proceed to step 7.
- Browse to the Windows Temp folder appropriate for your operating system.
- If you are running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition, the folder is located in the following path:

- Select all files in the Temp folder, and then press DELETE.
