SYMPTOMS

After you apply Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2), the DHCP Server service is unable to be authorized from Active Directory. Although the DHCP server requests authorization from Active Directory every 5 minutes, DHCP clients cannot obtain a lease or an address, and the System Event log may contain an entry that is similar to the following entry:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DhcpServer
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1051
Date: 15/06/2001
Time: 9.40.01
User: N/A
Computer: computer name
Description:
The DHCP/BINL service has determined that it is not authorized to service
clients on this network for the Windows domain: domain name.com.
Data:
0000: 00 00 00 00

NOTE: The date and time that are listed in the preceding log entry may vary from the entry in your log.

Or, when you attempt to connect to the Remote Installation Services (RIS) server via Pre-boot eXecution Environment (PXE) network card or Remote Installation Boot Floppy (RBFG) boot disk, the client workstations receive the following error message:

No reply from a server. Press a key to reboot system.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the LDAP filter request for the DHCP server in Active Directory was incorrect.
