Article ID: 302156

Article Last Modified on 2/22/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 Enterprise Edition
  • NCompass Resolution 4.0

This article was previously published under Q302156

SYMPTOMS

Previewing an ASF or AVI format video in the CMS 2001 Web Author resource gallery fails. Trying to preview the resource using Page Preview also fails.

When you try to preview, Windows Media Player starts and tries to open the video but fails, and then you receive the following error message:

Cannot open file error.

NOTE: Editing a page that contains an ASF video resource generates VBScript errors. VBScript error messages appear when you move your mouse pointer over any placeholder that contains an ASF file. The only solution is to exit.

CAUSE

This issue occurs only with AVI and ASF formats, and only from a resource gallery. Previewing a local resource using Windows Media player works as expected.

RESOLUTION

It is best to attach video files, rather than to embed them.
