Article ID: 301494

Article Last Modified on 1/27/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This article was previously published under Q301494

SYMPTOMS

When you install a program, it may not create the (shortcut) icons for all of the user accounts.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the program does not support multiple users on the same computer. The program, however, may work if a shortcut is created for it.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, create a shortcut to the program, and then place the shortcut on the Start menu for each user that you want to have access to that program. For instructions about how to create a shortcut on the Start menu, click Start, and then click Help and Support. In the Search box, type: Start menu, press ENTER, and then click the Add items to the Start menu topic.

NOTE: Before you can start a program, some programs that do not support the Fast User Switching feature may require you to disable other users from being able to run this program.
