XADM: Move Mailbox Does Not Work with Trailing Spaces in Exchange Server 5.5 Directory Name

SYMPTOMS

When you use Active Directory Users and Computers to move a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox to Exchange 2000 Server, you may receive the following error message:

Task Summary: Move Mailbox Started: Monday, May 07, 2001 4:17:47 PM Finished: Monday, May 07, 2001 4:17:47 PM Results: Error: Connecting to source server. CN=Joe User,CN=Users,DC=tailspintoys,DC=com: There is no such object on the server.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox contains either a leading or trailing space in the directory name.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.

NOTE: Because of file dependencies, this update requires Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
