SYMPTOMS

A gradual memory leak may occur when the DsGetDcName or DsGetSiteName function from the IADsTools COM object from the Windows 2000 Support Tools is called.

CAUSE

Memory is improperly released after the DsGetDcName or DsGetSiteName call has finished.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: The developer does not need to modify the code after this fix is installed. The memory will be properly freed.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
