SYMPTOMS

When you open a password-protected Microsoft PowerPoint presentation as read-only, and then try to print the presentation, you may not be able to print the presentation.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because PowerPoint cannot initialize the printer and print the presentation after you open a presentation as read-only.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click Print on the Standard toolbar to print the presentation when you open a password-protected presentation as read-only.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
