SYMPTOMS

When you click a button on the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar, you may receive an error message similar to the following:

MSOFFICE caused an invalid page fault in Shell32.dll.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your computer is running Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), and a version of any the following products that is incompatible with Windows Me is installed on your computer:

  • McAfee VirusScan
  • Symantec Corporation products including:
    • Norton AntiVirus
    • Norton CleanSweep
    • Norton CrashGuard
    • Norton Internet Security
    • Norton Personal Firewall
    • Norton SystemWorks
    • WinFax PRO


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the incompatible program from your computer, or upgrade to a version that is compatible with Windows Me.

To determine whether the version of the Symantec product that you are running is compatible with Windows Me, browse to the following Symantec Web site and view the document "Compatibility of current Symantec products with Microsoft Windows Me and Windows 2000":

If you are running Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7, browse to the following Symantec Web site and view the document "Does Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.x support Windows Millennium Edition?":
