SYMPTOMS
When you compose a new Outlook rich-text message (MAPI) in Microsoft Outlook 2000 with the information store set to the server and the Exchange 2000 multimedia extension installed, if you do the following things (in the order that they are listed)
- Insert a file.
- Insert an embedded object (OLE).
- Record a multimedia message.
- Insert another file.
- Send the message.
when the recipient attempts to open the first attachment, the recipient may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This problem can occur if the Outlook cache gets out of synchronization with the Exchange 2000 server.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, start with a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) rich-text message instead of an Outlook rich-text message.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1.
