SYMPTOMS
On a multihomed computer that is running SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE), clients may be unable to connect to the server. If you attempt to make an ODBC connection to the server by specifying the server's IP address, the following error message occurs:
CAUSE
This error may occur when an ODBC connection is attempted to a computer that has multiple network cards where MSDE is listening on one IP, but the Netbios name resolves to the IP address of the other network card on the same computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
