FIX: BizTalk Editor and Mapper Do Not Start and Fail to Load Schema Files After MSXML 4.0 Beta Is Installed

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Microsoft XML 4.0 Beta on a computer running BizTalk Server 2000, the following behavior may occur in the BizTalk Editor or BizTalk Mapper:

• If you install the MSXML 4.0 Beta in replace mode, the BizTalk Editor and BizTalk Mapper cannot be started. Nothing happens after you try to start the BizTalk Editor or BizTalk Mapper. No error message is displayed and no error is recorded in the event logs.

-OR-

• If you install the MSXML 4.0 Beta in side-by-side mode, the following error message occurs when you attempt to open a schema with the BizTalk Editor or BizTalk Mapper:

  The file c:\...\schema.xml could not be properly opened.
  Reason: The parameter is incorrect.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
