FIX: Documents Fail Data Validation When You Use X12 Documents with BizTalk Server

SYMPTOMS

When you use X12 documents with Microsoft BizTalk Server that use either Real (R) or Number (N) data types, your documents may fail data validation. The reason provided for validation failure may be similar to the following error message:

Length is greater than the maximum.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in BizTalk Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

To provide support for newer specifications, BizTalk Server now provides a property named Custom Maximum Length. This new property allows data that includes plus (+) or minus (-) signs and decimal points (.) to be excluded from the calculation of the length of field data.
