SYMPTOMS

When you are querying printer-related objects in Lmmib2.mib with the Spooler service stopped, Snmp.exe may leak large amounts of memory.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the agent DLL allocates memory for the query even though the initial printer function that is called returns an error.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, avoid querying SNMP data for printing while the service is stopped. You can also restart the SNMP service if you notice high memory usage.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
