IMPORTANT: Authenticating against an external time source is required. Before you begin, you need to confirm that the date and time are the same on your Exchange Server 5.5 and Exchange 2000 computers. Synchronize the date and time to an external time source by using the following syntax:
net time \\(server) /set /y
- Install a Microsoft Windows 2000 domain controller, and then create a new domain, tree, and forest.
Install Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server, and then run DCPromo to create a domain controller. When prompted, create a new domain, tree, and forest. It is important that the SMTP and NNTP components are installed with the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) component, and that you accept the default option for Permissions compatible with Pre-Windows 2000 Servers.

- Configure a new Recipients container and a Schedule+ Free Busy replica on the Exchange Server 5.5 computer.
Creating a new Recipients container in your Exchange Server 5.5 site makes it easier for Exchange Server 5.5 users to locate virtual conference rooms. Also, replicating the Exchange 2000 Server Schedule+ Free Busy system folder to the Exchange Server 5.5 site allows Exchange Server 5.5 users to directly book conferencing resources and see free-and-busy information from clients when they are scheduling online meetings from Microsoft Outlook 2000 and later.- Start the Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program, and click the Site container.
- Click New Other on the File menu, click Recipients Container, and then create a new recipients container called "All Conferencing Resources."
- Click your site's Schedule+ Free Busy folder under
MyOrg\Folders\System Folders\Schedule+ Free Busy, and then click Properties on the File menu. - On the Replicas tab, click the Exchange 2000 Server that is listed under Servers, click Add, and then click OK.
- Install Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server.
Before you install Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server, create a new administrative group, and name it something that differentiates it from the mixed administrative group. Doing so separates the Conferencing Free/Busy public folder from the User tree's Free/Busy public folder. This is important to reduce the cost of replicating Schedule+ free-and-busy information from the Exchange 2000 computer to the Exchange Server 5.5 computer. See the Exchange 2000 Online Help for information about creating administrative groups.
After you create an additional administrative group, run Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server Setup. - Manage the conferencing site.
- Before you manage your conferencing site, create a new storage group called "Conferencing Storage Group," and then create and mount a new mailbox store called "Conferencing Mailbox Store (
ServerName). This mailbox store will be used to home Conferencing calendar mailboxes and resources. By separating the Conferencing database from your user's database, you make it possible to perform a selective backup and restore procedure.- On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
- Click your Exchange 2000 server, point to New on the Action menu, and then click Storage Group.
- Right-click the new storage group, point to New, and then click Mailbox Store.
- Click Yes when you receive the following message:
The new store was successfully created. Do you want to mount it now?
- After you create a new storage group, start the Conferencing Manager MMC snap-in, and manage your site. Managing your conferencing site involves creating the site calendar conference mailbox and conferencing resource mailboxes. - Next, you must create another two-way Connection Agreement to replicate objects between the Microsoft Exchange System Objects\Conferencing folder on the Windows 2000 DC and the All Conferencing Resources Recipients container on the Exchange Server 5.5 computer. This connector allows the global calendar mailbox and existing and future conference resource mailboxes to be replicated to the Exchange Server 5.5 computer from the Exchange 2000 server. It also makes scheduling resources simpler for Exchange Server 5.5 users, who would otherwise have to find them in the Global Address List.
