SYMPTOMS
When you try to install and configure a PCI-PCI bridge on a computer that runs Windows 2000, there is not enough I/O space to support the PCI card.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because in Windows 2000, the total I/O space for PCI cards is limited to 32 kilobytes (KB). Each PCI-PCI bridge must be assigned at least 4 KB of I/O space. If you have 12 PCI slots in the computer, you need 48 KB of I/O space, which is more than the current limit.
RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
