SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Internet Explorer, when you click to clear the Show Internet Explorer on the desktop check box (click Tools, click Internet Options, and then click the Advanced tab), and then log on to the computer as another user, the Internet Explorer icon does not appear on the desktop as expected.

You expect the removal of the Internet Explorer icon from the desktop to affect only the current user.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, click to select the Show Internet Explorer on the desktop check box on the Advanced tab of the Internet Options dialog box, and then click OK.

By doing so, you make the Internet Explorer icon available on the desktop for all users.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior does not occur on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.
