Internet Explorer Opens a Blank Window Loading a .pdf File by Using Name Destinations

SYMPTOMS

Internet Explorer may load a blank page when you attempt to load a .pdf file by using a Name Destination such as:

A href="filename.pdf#starthere"


CAUSE

Internet Explorer incorrectly parses the location that is passed that describes where to start loading the .pdf document. Because of this, a blank page is loaded instead of the proper location somewhere within the .pdf file. This location is provided in the HTML code by using the number sign (#).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Internet Explorer version 5.5. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: This hotfix require Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1).


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Internet Explorer version 5.5 Service Pack 2.
